I'm currently the Consultant, Genealogist and Historian, working with Asbury Broadneck United Methodist Church. Our Cemetery Preservation Project Committee are documenting, preserving and archiving the rich histories of the church, cemetery and the surrounding communities of Skidmore, Clay Hill, Mullberry Hill , Middletown and
Brownswoods.
I have also written a grant that was partially funded by Preservation Maryland and Maryland Historical Trust. This grant has allowed us to conduct educational workshops and to learn how to research and document the history of the cemetery and the burials. We are asking those of you who are interested, to provide information that may be able to help us preserve the histories of our black churches and cemeteries. More than 1,800 people are interred in the historic cemetery. This project will also give you the opportunity to help us close some of the gaps in our histories.
We created this History Quilt for The 175th Anniversary and Homecoming. It was sewn by our own Master Quilter Parthenia Colbert. Each stitch of love was stitched with her own hands.

*Other projects include documenting Franklin United Methodist Church Historic Cemetery
Ongoing research projects include:
*** 4 Batts Neck Cemeteries, **Adams;** Carters, **Sage Bottom,** Chews
** Daniel Starr Cemetery,** Mt. Zion, **Union - Davidsonville, **People's Cemetery * Mt. Auburn Brewer Hill **Union - Lothian , **Ebenezer ,*** Swann. St. Paul and **Sollers *** LP Cemetery Undisclosed) *** Union ( Undisclosed) *** Owens Family (Private)
* A few other recently found cemeteries are being documented
Did you know that 80% of the burials can be confirmed as being interred in a cemetery. 20% of the deceased person's remains can be found interred elsewhere in the earlier burial years. Final plans can change as final arrangements are made. Church burial logs, mortician registers, oral histories, and funeral programs will help to confirm the actual burial place. However, there is approximately a 5% chance in small communities that, a person's remains are interred in a family plot found on the families property.
* Signifies early stages of research **80% has been preserved *** Research has been completed. Note: The cemeteries mention are located in Queen Anne's, Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City and one private cemetery. The other two undisclosed locations are being documented.
